Meet Simon, the friendly duck created to guide children through their emotions. Simon's relatable charm, paired with his sidekick Hopper, a stuffed animal, provides comfort and familiarity for children, as many of them have their own beloved stuffed companions.
This project initially began as an alphabetical book showcasing various emotions from A-Z. Designed for kids age 3+, its purpose was to assist children in understanding and managing their feelings. My own experiences as a child, being put into therapy at 7-years-old, struggling with uncontrollable anger and difficulty expressing emotions, inspired this project. The tools I've developed—such as flashcards, an iPad game, and a tabletop book—are aimed to simplify the discussions about emotions for children, tools that I wish I had growing up.
Tabletop Book
The tabletop book's purpose is to be used with a parent, counselor, or therapist. The interaction would be: the child sits in front of the adult, the adult would say the definition and course of action to the child, thus, starting a discussion between the two.
Simon's World App Store
The tablet game is designed for just the child. The game has a simplified UI that is all tap-based. In the app, the child is going on an adventure with Simon and Hopper. Each level, a different emotion and story. At the end of each level, the child is tested on their memorization and ability to understand their new found knowledge. The app also contains a section for flashcards.
